Spotlight on Ending Domestic Violence: A Jeanne Geiger
Crisis Center
Perspective. Learn about the programs and services of this
remarkable organization that has become a leader in domestic violence
prevention and awareness. Elaine Cohen, Development Director, will talk
about the center, then a client will share her personal story. Finally,
a video will highlight the Center’s nationally recognized High Risk Team
Initiative to prevent domestic violence assault and homicide. Open to

2011 - SPECIAL FOCUS ON ISLAM

Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
Discussion of Karen Armstrong’s book Muhammad: A Prophet for Our
Time. (2007) (Note:
she has two books on Muhammad, so be sure to get the 2007 one - Amazon
has the hardback on sale) Amesbury Friends Meetinghouse,
120 Friend Street, Amesbury.

Day Trip to Roxbury Mosque and
Cultural Center. Approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We will go by train and subway to the mosque. Day includes a tour
of the Mosque, a talk on Islam, attendance at a service and lunch in the
cafeteria. (we will announce shortly which date we will go).
Sunday Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.
Introduction
to Islam. Several speakers
will talk about the basic tenets of the Islamic religion and some of its
history. Come learn the facts to better understand what is happening in
the world.
Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
Muslims
in America
Today. A panel discussion
about the history of Muslims in
America, the growth of fundamentalism
in Islam, and the treatment of Muslims in our country both before and
since 9/11.
